Jay Gruden Provides Update on Redskins' Intentions Concerning LT Trent Williams
By Jerry Trotta
To nobody's surprise, left tackle Trent Williams did not report to the Redskins' training camp last week, and considering his offseason assertions, we would be genuinely shocked if he did actually show up.
And on Wednesday, a report dropped that Washington was considering trading the seven-time Pro-Bowler.
Fast forward to Saturday, however, and head coach Jay Gruden has provided an update on the organization's intentions concerning the world-beating lineman. Per the head coach, the Redskins would do just about anything to have Williams suit up in the burgundy and gold threats, and that he sincerely doubts the franchise will end up trading him.
The seven-time Pro-Bowler was originally considering a refurbished contract extension but then came reports that he didn't want to play for Washington anymore -- following the manner in which the organization's medical staff handled a growth on his head (of which he eventually underwent surgery for).
Williams' future in the nation's capital is about as cloudy as could be at the moment and Gruden's comments don't necessarily clear up anything. Be honest, who would want to trade one of the best LT's in the league?
The lone, imperative question remaining is if Williams wants to remain a member of the franchise. Your guess is as good as ours.
