VIDEO: Alabama Responds to Auburn Pick 6 With Jaylen Waddle Kick Return TD and Henry Ruggs Score
By Jerry Trotta
It took some time for Alabama and Auburn to get going on Saturday, but 2019's edition of the Iron Bowl is officially off and running, as the SEC rivals both traded scores within a span of 60 seconds late in the second quarter. After the Tigers returned an interception for a touchdown to extended their lead to 17-10, Jaylen Waddle took the ensuing kickoff 99 yards (!) to the house to even things up.
These are exactly the kind of theatrics that make the Iron Bowl one of the most compelling matchups during Rivalry Week. And how about that sky cam angle for the kickoff return? That beauty deserves a chef's kiss.
This electric and prolonged sequence, however, wasn't ready to conclude. Alabama capitalized on an Auburn fumble with a Mac Jones touchdown pass to Henry Ruggs to put the Crimson Tide on top 24-17 mere moments later.
Credit to Jones for stepping into that throw knowing he'd be POPPED by an unblocked pass rusher.
Strap in, folks, because this is shaping up to be a classic.
