3 Power 5 Schools Who Should Go All in for Nebraska Transfer WR JD Spielman
By Michael Luciano

Over the last three years, Nebraska speedster JD Spielman has put up incredible numbers that largely go unnoticed. One of the most dynamic receivers in college football, who has topped 800 yards receiving in each of his three seasons in Lincoln, announced he was leaving Scott Frost and putting his name in the transfer portal. Spielman is going to have plenty of suitors given his game-breaking speed, and these three Power 5 schools look like perfect fits.
3. Miami
Even during a down period, the pull of The U has helped them land some elite players, including former Houston quarterback D'Eriq King, on the transfer market. With the loss of KJ Osborn to the NFL, Miami is in need of a new slot receiver that will be on the receiving end of King's passes in Rhett Lashlee's spread offense that worked so well at SMU. Spielman could easily top 1,000 yards in that offense, and Miami might challenge for the ACC Coastal with him in the lineup.
2. Texas
Leaving Nebraska for Texas would have been unthinkable 20 years ago, but Spielman's best change to increase his college production and beef up his NFL Draft stock could lie in Austin. Not only would he be going to a very explosive offense that runs at a breakneck pace, but he would almost be guaranteed elite production, as Texas lost Collin Johnson and Devin Duvernay, who had 106 catches combined last season, both went to the NFL. Tom Herman and Sam Ehlinger would both benefit from adding a jitterbug like Spielman.
1. Minnesota
The Spielman name has plenty of good will behind it in Big Ten country. Spielman's father, Rick, is the GM of the Minnesota Vikings. His uncle, Chris, was an All-American linebacker at Ohio State who had a solid NFL career with the Detroit Lions. Spielman, an Eden Prarie native, would replace the production that was vacated after Tyler Johnson went to the pros, as PJ Fleck's up-tempo offense should help Spielman produce the same rock-solid numbers he put up as a Cornhusker. The one caveat with Spielman picking the Golden Gophers is that Frost might not allow him to go to a Big Ten school.
