Jed Lowrie Got Injured Again During Rehab and is Officially a Met Now
By Parker White
Welcome to the culture of the New York Mets, Jed Lowrie.
Lowrie signed with the Mets back in January, but he hasn't found his way to the field yet. Before Spring Training could truly get going, the veteran infielder suffered a injury to the back of his left knee.
He was inching closer to a return, but during his recent rehab assignment, Lowrie suffered a setback with a low Grade 1 hamstring strain. The team will reassess his status in a two weeks, per Matt Ehalt.
Lowrie played in a couple rehab games for Triple-A Syracuse last week before being evaluated by the Mets medical staff on Sunday when the hamstring strain was revealed. It's a minor strain, so the Mets hope that Lowrie can resume his rehab assignment in the near future.
Even though Lowrie just turned 35, this wasn't a small addition for the Mets. He was coming off his best season with the Oakland Athletics, earning his first career All-Star nod, having slashed .267/.353/.448 with 23 home runs and 99 RBI.
The Mets were hoping he'd be a reliable veteran bat in their lineup, but instead they have to rely on Todd Frazier and J.D. Davis at the hot corner.
