Jeopardy Champ James Holzhauer Tweets Wickedly Self-Aware Joke About the Warriors
By Ryan Flores
James Holzhauer is an absolute treasure. On Friday night, the "Jeopardy!" phenom sent out a tweet about the Golden State Warriors' track record of winning.
Holzhauer's tweet about how it's boring to see the same team win every time doubled as a joke about himself, as he was nothing short of dominant during his incredible run on the hit game show. Holzhauer had not only set the record for most money won in a single episode, but also holds the next 15 spots in the record book. He even went eleven games during his winning streak without buzzing-in incorrectly.
Holzhauer had clearly proven that he was a master at the game during his 32-game winning streak, but, unfortunately, all good things must come to an end, as he wound up losing in his 33rd game to Emma Boettcher, a librarian from Chicago.
In those 33 games, however, Holzhauer had come $58,484 shy of the $2.52 million record that Ken Jennings compiled through 74 games. He was winning an average of $77,000 per game, more than double Jennings's rate, which is downright ridiculous.
Regardless, the 34-year-old professional sports bettor has officially reached celebrity status, and his Twitter feed is unmatched. Maybe Holzhauer's loss to Boettcher can be compared to the Warriors, who are currently down three games to one to the Toronto Raptors, who are looking for their first championship. Perhaps, like Holzhauer, the Warriors run may finally come to an end.
