Jerry Jones' Grandson to Start at QB for Arkansas on Saturday
By Michael Luciano
Chad Morris and Arkansas are currently one of the worst Power 5 teams in college football. They haven't won a conference game since 2017, and have gone just 4-17 since Morris came over from SMU, with losses to North Texas and San Jose State on the ledger.
Rather than start a turnover machine in Nick Starkel, who has 10 picks against seven touchdowns, or the incredibly inaccurate Ben Hicks, who isn't completing half of his passes, Morris is thinking outside the box. John Stephen Jones, the grandson of Dallas Cowboys owner and former Razorback Jerry Jones, will start this week against former Arkansas quarterback Ty Storey and Western Kentucky.
Fellow freshman KJ Jefferson will back him up.
Jones, a 5-11, 200 pound freshman from Dallas, has played well in limited action, going 10-16 for 74 yards and two touchdowns in late mop-up duty.
Some might call this a desperate move from Morris, but Jones has to have as much or more command of the offense than Hicks or Starkel ever did, so why not give him a shot?
Jones might have an easy matchup against Western Kentucky up first, but his next two starts will come on the road against LSU and a rivalry game against Missouri. It'll be a trial by fire.
