Jerry Jones Still Not Having Made a Decision on Jason Garrett Proves Cowboys Are Going Nowhere
By Scott Rogust
The Dallas Cowboys did what they do best these past two decades, and that's drop the ball when they're considered a Super Bowl contender. All of the elite talent on the roster this season could only muster an 8-8 record, and just about all the blame goes to head coach Jason Garrett.
The coach has been with the team for 10 years and only accumulated two playoff wins, without ever advancing past the NFC Divisional Round. Reports and rumors indicated that owner Jerry Jones would move on from Garrett once the season reached its conclusion.
Instead, Jones opted to leave everyone hanging, as he's yet to make a decision on Garrett's future with no timetable for an official announcement.
In the final month of the season, Jones has talked so much about how disappointed he was in the team's performance. From the players to the coaching staff, everyone heard Jones' frustration.
As has been the case, Jones is all talk.
The Cowboys owner is obviously skeptical in letting Garrett go before his contract expires on Jan. 14. Either he doesn't want to fire someone that he's employed for the past decade and built a strong relationship with, or he's afraid another team, like the rival New York Giants, is going to poach Garrett and make him their new head coach. After what Jones has seen, it's hard to believe he's even considering the latter.
Jones needs to realize that the media spotlight has blinded him to the point that he can't make an obvious and clear decision. Step in front of the camera, announce you're moving on from Jason Garrett, and get started on your head coaching search.
The longer Jones takes on his decision, the less we can take the Dallas Cowboys seriously ... if that was even possible.
