The year was 1993. Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys had just found repeat success on the biggest stage in the world of sports under head coach Jimmy Johnson. Shortly thereafter, Jones fired his two-time Super Bowl champion coach. For the second time in his tenure, the legendary owner had ousted a title-winning leader and stunned the National Football League.

The first was Tom Landry, whom he had removed from the organization in his first year as owner way back in 1989. The difference between him and Johnson? Landry appears on the Cowboys' Ring of Honor, an exclusive display curated by Jerry Jones alone. On Thursday, Jones reiterated to Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News that honoring Johnson was the furthest thing from his mind this year, even as the time-honored coach joins the Hall of Fame.

Unlike some of his past comments between the two, Jones did give his former University of Arkansas teammate and some credit. He highlighted how Landry had also been a Hall of Famer before entering the Ring of Honor.

"Here we’ve got the two greatest coaches in the history of the Cowboys." Jones said. "So they can go in the same order."

One of the greatest coaches or not, Jones stated that adding Johnson to the Ring is "not on (his) mind at all". It seems he isn't opposed the idea eternally, but it may be a while before Jimmy Jumpup gets honored by the Cowboys.
