Jerry Narron Responds to Mets Rumors After Brodie Van Wagenen Leaked His Name in Twitter Gaffe
By Adam Weinrib
Leave it to the Mets front office to leave an overflowing folder labeled "Top Secret Name List" in their incredibly public photos.
On Tuesday, GM Brodie Van Wagenen leaked a nice photo of new manager Carlos Beltran signing his deal in Flushing, a heartwarming piece of like/share bait for the title-starved Mets faithful.
But, if you're a Mets fan with too much time on your hands (e.g. most Mets fans hoping for a special 2020 season), you cropped, zoomed, chopped and screwed the photo in an effort to get a look at that loose paper. And if you did, you saw a bulleted list with a "Jerry Narron" heading.
So, what's the deal? Is the veteran big league catcher and ex-Rangers and Reds manager ticketed to be Carlos Beltran's eyes and ears as the Mets' bench coach?
The man himself is staying mum on the whole thing.
“I definitely want to stay in the game,” Narron said, while making it clear he'd be amenable to a rendezvous in New York, saying, “Hopefully we’ll meet in person sometime.”
Whether Narron's a finalist or not, we don't know. But his name has certainly come up in the vetting process, and he's into it.
In case there was any doubt about the validity here, Van Wagenen deleted the initial binder tweet. Of course he did.
