Jets' Asking Price From Cowboys for Jamal Adams Was Ridiculously High and He Should Be Flattered
By Scott Rogust
The New York Jets spent all of Tuesday reportedly exploring the value of three of their top players throughout the NFL's 2019 trade deadline, one of them being star safety Jamal Adams.
After the deadline passed at 4:01 p.m. ET, Adams expressed his frustration that general manager Joe Douglas would try to trade him, as he claims to have told the exec told him in a meeting last week that he wanted to remain with the team. However, Adams should actually be flattered by what occurred based on what the Jets were asking for from the Dallas Cowboys.
According to Jane Slater of NFL Network, Gang Green demanded a first-round pick and a pair of second-round selections from Dallas, an obvious signal they had no interest in actually dealing the player. Naturally, the Cowboys were unwilling to meet the asking price.
While Adams is entitled to be peeved, he should feel validated by the fact that New York's demand was a total non-starter.
Throughout the day, various NFL insiders reported that the trade package for Adams would exceed what the Miami Dolphins received from the Pittsburgh Steelers for defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick. After the deadline passed, Adams took to Twitter to express his belief that Douglas "went behind [his] back" and tried to shop him. During a conference call, the GM said that's not the case, saying that teams called him, not the other way around.
Despite all of this drama, Jamal Adams is still a New York Jet. We'll have to wait and see if that remains the same at the start of the 2020 league year, of course.
