Jets Don't Sound Close to Hiring a GM and That Seems Bad
By Jerry Trotta

New York Jets owner Christopher Johnson sent shockwaves throughout the NFL when he unexpectedly fired general manager Mike Maccagnan on May 15, after letting Maccagnan spend more than $100 million in free agency and govern the team's draft just weeks before.
The franchise completed interviews with Seahawks co-director of player personnel Scott Fitterer on Friday, Saints director of pro scouting Terry Fontenot on Saturday, Eagles VP of player personnel Joe Douglas on Sunday, and Bears assistant director of player personnel Champ Kelly on Monday.
But despite all of that, the comments of current head coach and newly-promoted interim GM Adam Gase hint that the Jets are nowhere close to hiring a GM. And on top of it all, New York has NO more interviews scheduled.

Ah yes, the old "fire a general manager after he throws money around in free agency and allow him to determine the franchise's future by presiding over the organizations draft, then sit on your hands waiting to replace him" strategy.
The oldest trick in the book!

Are we to assume that one of the four aforementioned interviewees are the final candidates to land the job? Especially since the Jets have no other interviews lined up? Perhaps, but anything is possible with this franchise.
But hey, at least we haven't heard Peyton Manning's name associated with the vacancy in recent weeks, right?
