Le'Veon Bell received some wise words from New York Jets' locker room leader Steve McLendon this week.

McLendon told the media that he urged the newly-signed Le'Veon to join his teammates at voluntary workouts, which he's infamously been absent from.

Of course, this is not the first time Bell has missed voluntary work with a team, and it likely will not be the last. He has no problem staying in shape and staying prepared, but he prefers to do it on is own.

He has documented his work this offseason extensively on social media, perhaps specifically to prove to everyone that he's not taking days off.

Still, McLendon told the media he had a conversation with Le'Veon in which he asked the running back to switch up his routine.

"I told him, ‘You understand this place is different than Pittsburgh,'" McLendon said. "You need to get back so you can understand the quarterback and the situation.’"

McLendon has a good point. Le'Veon has proven he can be an All-Pro running back without attending voluntary workouts, but in this case, it's about getting to know your young quarterback and allowing him to establish a rapport with you.

McLendon believes Bell owes it to his new teammates to show up and get a feel for the culture, and he's probably right. If Bell and Darnold put on a show this year, though, I doubt anybody will care.
