Jets Releasing Jachai Polite Comes as No Surprise After Ridiculous Fines From Offseason Revealed
By Michael Luciano
It seems like the attitude and character concerns surrounding former Florida Gators and New York Jets pass rusher Jachai Polite were totally justified, and they might have played a major part in the 68th overall pick being cut before the season began.
Polite, a speed rusher who showed up to the combine overweight and ran a 5.04 in the 40-yard dash, was fined over $100,000 by head coach Adam Gase from the start of rookie minicamp.
Polite, who was since signed by the Seattle Seahawks and placed on their practice squad, was fined for tardiness, skipping parts of practice, and other unspecified things that a rookie trying to make it in the league should not be doing.
Despite the fact that Gase vouched for Polite, who had 19.5 tackles for loss and 11 sacks during his junior year at Florida, he was a square peg that was being asked to fill a round hole as a defensive end in Gregg Williams' 4-3 defense.
When you combine attitude and character concerns, poor athletic measureables, and a bad fit in the scheme with complete apathy and disinterest, you get Polite. His short tenure with the Jets is already over, and he will have some proving to do in Seattle.
