Jets Are Signing Frank Gore and They Better Let Him Go Out on Top
By Jerry Trotta
One of the most durable running backs in the history of the NFL has found a home in his age-37 (!) season.
Per ESPN insider Adam Schefter, the New York Jets have signed Frank Gore to a one-year deal. In doing so, the five-time Pro Bowler will reunite with Adam Gase, who coached him in Miami in 2018.
This is fantastic news, but the Jets better let Gore, who could very well retire at the end of the 2020 season, go out on top. Failing to put him in a favorable situation to contribute and pick up yards in what could be his final season in the NFL would be a hideous disservice to the 15-year veteran.
Gore, who ranks third all-time with 15,347 rushing yards, totaled 166 carries last year with Buffalo. Even though his bell-cow days are behind him, that workload proves that the future Hall of Famer is more than capable of splitting touches with Le'Veon Bell, who isn't necessarily in Gase's good graces.
History suggests that we shouldn't have a ton of faith in the Jets ability to handle this accordingly, but maybe Gore's familiarity with Gase proves us wrong. To put it simply: the former Miami Hurricane deserves a proper sendoff.
