The New York Jets will be without one of their starting offensive weapons Week 1 of the season, as tight end Chris Herndon has been suspended for the first four games of the season after violating NFL's substance abuse policy.

The suspension stems from a DUI that took place in June of 2018.

Herndon received a four-game ban instead of just two games because a women at the scene claimed bodily harm due to the car crash.

The 23-year-old is still eligible to participate in all offseason and preseason activities, including practices and games. The 2018 fourth-round pick will return to the Jets' active roster on Monday, Oct. 7.

The former Miami Hurricane had a productive rookie season, playing in all 16 games while hauling in 39 receptions for 502 yards and 4 touchdowns.

He excelled in the season's second half when he and Sam Darnold began to develop a strong rapport. After Week 9, Herndon made 27 receptions and picked up 341 receiving yards alongside 1 touchdown.

With Herndon out, tight end Eric Tomlinson will have every opportunity to fill the starting role.
