Jets Waive Safety Bennett Jackson Just After Wishing Him Happy Birthday on Twitter
By Karl Rasmussen
Perhaps Twitter teams for professional sports organizations need to be more in the loop about which players are about to be waived. Unfortunately, whoever runs the Jets' Twitter account was not in the know about the team's transaction plans, and it led to an incredibly awkward moment.
Early Monday morning, the Jets wished safety Bennett Jackson a happy birthday on the social media platform. Unfortunately, his birthday likely wasn't so happy, as a few hours later, the team delivered the news that he'd been waived.
Happy birthday, Bennett, we hope you like your gift: the waiver wire!
Bennett Jackson? Really? Freaking Bennett Jackson? That's someone whose birthday we need a graphic prepped for?
Instead of being gifted the opportunity to suit up on Monday night for his team, Jackson was dealt the opposite fate, as he is now no longer a member of the organization.
Not exactly the classiest move from the team, but someone needed to get trimmed in order to bring Luke Falk up from the practice squad to serve as Trevor Siemian's backup quarterback (we're in the wildest of timelines).
Oh and that birthday wish the Jets gave Jackson? Along with his status on the team, it's been deleted.
The Jets really channeled their inner Toronto Blue Jays with this one.
