This Stat Proves Jimmy Garoppolo is Far Better Than We Give Him Credit For

San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo took some heat after his team went down in the Super Bowl. One missed deep pass late in the fourth quarter could have been the difference between winning and losing.
But Garoppolo's season was about more than just one game and one pass. He threw for 3,978 yards and 27 touchdowns in the regular season before he barely had to launch the ball in the playoffs because of the 49ers' running game. Garoppolo was also successful on deep passes. In fact, he led the NFL in that category.

1. Jimmy Garoppolo - 61%
2. Patrick Mahomes - 51%
3. Gardner Minshew - 49%
4. Drew Brees - 48% pic.twitter.com/8X0uA2gjcS
After all the criticism, the numbers still show that Garoppolo had success going deep. He even beat out Patrick Mahomes by a nice margin. Beating Mahomes in any offensive category is a major accomplishment.

The 49ers dominated on the ground and the threat of the run opened up the deep ball for the offense. While Garoppolo's one big missed pass in the Super Bowl remains a lowlight of the season, he should be just fine running the offense again in 2020.
