Jimmy Haslam Accidentally Talked Some Trash About Jerry Jones in Owners' Zoom Call and We Need a Full Blown Feud
By Scott Rogust
Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is known for his gift of gab. This is the man who single-handedly convinced the Rams organization to move from St. Louis to Los Angeles. Jones can sell ice to an eskimo. But, as it turns out, his constant demand for the spotlight has apparently turned off one of his colleagues in the AFC North, who should get a little more tech savvy, probably.
The NFL recently held a Zoom call with all 32 owners in the league, and during the call, Jones found himself stuck on mute once his name was called. That was when Cleveland Browns owner Jimmy Haslam piped in to say the Cowboys boss should be on "permanent mute," not realizing he was...also audible.
Owner fight!
Haslam uttered those words, thinking that he was inaudible. Of course, given his age, he wasn't technologically advanced enough to realize that his mic was live. This blunder actually turned out to be a blessing in disguise, because now we have a storyline heading into the Week 4 matchup between the Browns and Cowboys.
Enigmatic players like Baker Mayfield, Odell Beckham Jr., and DeMarcus Lawrence won't have to do much talking to sell the contest, which is always good from their standpoint. Instead, they can just focus on game prep for the week. Jones and Haslam can do the work for them!
Let's face it, you know Jones is going to make some quips at Haslam's expense while standing in the center of his weekly massive media scrums. Come on, just look at Cleveland's history of head coaching hires and the NFL Draft. Those are easy targets! Meanwhile, Haslam can say the Cowboys are all talk but no bite when it comes to delivering their Super Bowl promises, which will definitely rile up the easily-emotional Cowboys fans on social media.
For the sake of NFL fans, please let this Jones-Haslam feud heat up. We desperately need it heading into the season.
