Jimmy Nelson is Nearing a Return to Brewers After Being Reinstated From IL
By Parker White
Out of nowhere, the Milwaukee Brewers announced on Friday that right-handed pitcher Jimmy Nelson had been reinstated from the injured list.
While he's certainly nearing a return from his shoulder injury, the Brewers are going to give him more time to get back into rhythm, optioning the 29 year old to Triple-A San Antonio.
Nelson missed the entire 2018 season after undergoing shoulder surgery, and it was still up in the air as to when he'd be healthy enough to return to a big league mound.
He still has prove himself at Triple-A, but this is a big step forward for Nelson in his quest to return to the Brewers rotation.
The last time Nelson pitched in a big league game was back in 2017, and over 29 starts he looked like the real deal and the future ace of the Brewers, posting a 12-6 record with a 3.49 ERA and 199 strikeouts over 175.1 innings.
It's still unknown as to whether the Brewers will bring him up and place him in the rotation or put him in the bullpen to ease him back. Either way, the addition of Nelson would be a huge addition to a pitching staff that is middle-of-the-pack (4.31 ERA), at best.
