JJ Watt Shares Motivational Quote About 'Hands on Knees' Twitter Debate
By Tyler Kemp
For some reason during Memorial Day, artist MC Hamer was the bearer of good news for anyone who has played sports at any level. The 'Can’t Touch This' rapper posted a tweet that unintentionally put coaches and gym teachers on blast, which caught the attention of Texans starJJ Watt.
Coaches everywhere have frowned upon the gesture as it could be deemed as a sign of weakness. Some have grown to agree with this sentiment. On the other hand, Watt and many others on Twitter take the opposite side in the debate. In replying to a meme of Michael Jordan and the late Kobe Bryant doing the ‘hands on knees’ gesture, Watt shared his thoughts.
If this doesn’t make someone want to run through a brick wall, we're not sure what will.
Watt makes an excellent point. Athletes are always told that they have to do whatever it takes to give their 100% on the playing field/court. Although putting your hands on your knees looks like the sign of quitting, it actually allows the athlete to recuperate so that they can go out and give it their all once again. Fans also agree with Watt’s sentiment of letting the athlete recover to go full speed once again.
There are probably plenty of high school and college coaches across all sports that have had their eyes opened from such scientific research. Hopefully with the help of an NFL All-Pro and three-time Defensive Player of the Year, such actions will not be ridiculed anymore.
