VIDEO: Joe Buck Echoes Belief That Illegal Sign-Stealing Goes Far Beyond Astros and Red Sox
By Adam Weinrib
Lead Fox announcer Joe Buck has seen plenty of baseball, front and center, over the years, and has watched the game get rocked at its highest levels by plenty of scandal. Sign-sealing by illicit means is the latest trend, but before it came steroids, and before those came greenies and pep pills. What did these earlier scandals have in common? Their pervasive nature; everyone was doing everything, rendering most advantages invalid. Buck seems to agree that could be the case again, after the Astros and Red Sox faced grave repercussions for their sign-stealing exploits. Though the methods may differ, Buck thinks plenty more teams were a part of it.
Certainly, this was breaking news to Astros fans, who firmly believe that Joe Buck is in the Houston Hater Club. To be fair, every team's fans believe this of Buck.
Now, does this mean lengthy penalties will be handed down to extra parties? Who knows. Per MLB, the New York Yankees aren't currently under investigation, and other whispered-about teams, like the Milwaukee Brewers, haven't been found guilty in any court other than that of public opinion.
But, with such unfettered access to technology these days, let's just say we'd be surprised, too, if a few other franchises weren't tripping over the line in an attempt to gain a Belichick-ian advantage.
Does that mean buzzers on every body? No. But it means we likely haven't heard the last of this, and fans might want to bite their tongues until the whole truth comes out.
