Recruiting Expert Reveals Inspiring Joe Burrow Twitter DM From 2013
By Michael Luciano
LSU quarterback and 2019 Heisman winner Joe Burrow always had an unparalleled competitive fire, even during his days as a scrappy junior high schooler in Ohio.
Burrow was under-recruited out of high school, and was never content with just seeing whatever offers came along. In 2013, Burrow sent a DM to recruiting expert Dave Berk asking for advice on what camps he should go to in order to get more recognition.
Before Ohio State came calling, Burrow was finding it hard to secure even a Group of 5 offer. For a period of time, the only FBS offer he had was from Frank Solich and Ohio, and that was likely due to the fact his dad, Jim Burrow, was the defensive coordinator.
Burrow has since proved the multitude of schools who passed on him extremely wrong. Under the guidance of LSU passing game coordinator Joe Brady, Burrow threw for 4,715 yards and 48 touchdowns against just six interceptions. He also added 289 yards and three scores on the ground.
With 841 first-place votes (second place Jalen Hurts had 12), Burrow won the Heisman in a landslide.
No one wanted Burrow out of high school, and Ohio State later decided that JT Barrett and Dwayne Haskins were their future at quarterback instead of Burrow. After picking up some hardware, the Tigers' signal caller continues to prove the doubters wrong.
