Joe Lacob Reveals Warriors Will Retire Andre Iguodala's No. 9 Jersey
By Karl Rasmussen
Andre Iguodala was never a superstar with the Golden State Warriors, but they didn't need him to be. What he was, however, was one of the best role players in the league. Iggy perfectly understood his role within the Warriors' system, and during his tenure with the team, the veteran was a leader both on and off the floor for the Western Conference powerhouse.
Well, Iguodala is no longer with the Warriors, having been traded to Memphis. But, that doesn't mean that Dubs Nation has forgotten what the former Finals MVP did for them, and he's being rewarded for his service to the team.
The Warriors will retire Iguodala's No. 9 jersey, announcing the decision after the 35-year-old was officially traded on July 6.
He won't be the only jersey entering Warriors' lore, as Kevin Durant's No. 35 is also going to be retired by the organization.
Iguodala won three rings with the Warriors, and was named the 2015 NBA Finals MVP. He joined the team back in 2013, just two years removed from his lone All-Star appearance.
While Iggy had been a starter for both the 76ers and Nuggets, he accepted his role off the bench with class, and immediately became a model teammate in Golden State's locker room.
In his career with the Warriors, Iguodala suited up for 413 regular season games, as well as 104 playoff games. He averaged 7.3 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.4 assists and shot at a 48.5% clip from the field.
