Joe Maddon Drops NSFW Rebuke of Critics After Benching Cubs Stars Following Elimination
By Scott Rogust
The Chicago Cubs are heading into unfamiliar territory in the Joe Maddon era. For the first time in the manager's five-year tenure on the North Side, the Cubs officially failed to make the postseason after the Milwaukee Brewers' win over the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday night.
Now, with the Brewers also fighting for the NL Central crown, they won't be too pleased that the Cubs aren't playing their "A" lineup against the first-place St. Louis Cardinals on Thursday.
And, quite frankly, Maddon doesn't care what the Brewers (or any of his other critics) think.
Yep, that's a quote speaks for itself.
Maddon has been a bit tense this season, considering his job status is up in the air. The 65-year-old is in the final year of his contract, as the and the team didn't rush to agree to an extension last winter.
With this failed postseason bid, the Cubs are increasingly expected to part ways with Maddon, but has a plethora of suitors. One such team is likely to be the Los Angeles Angels, whom Maddon managed on an interim basis in 1996 and 1999.
Joe Maddon has a important offseason coming up, so he doesn't care if critics are complaining about the Cubs starters taking a seat for the end of the season.
