Joe Maddon Was Reportedly Unaware of Angels Allegations Before Interview for Manager Opening
By Parker White

According to a bombshell report, an Angels employee told the DEA (Drug Enforcement Agency) that the team knew about Tyler Skaggs' opioid abuse that ended up causing his tragic death.
The Angels followed by releasing a statement where they denied the allegations that they knew about Skaggs' drug problem. Nothing is totally clear at this point, but according to Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY Sports, managerial candidate Joe Maddon was unaware of the news before his interview.
It's unknown whether the #Angels drug scandal reported by @TJQuinnESPN will have an impact on Joe Maddon's desire to manage the Angels. He was unaware of the news. The #Phillies still are in play for Maddon, but not the #Padres.

As Nightengale reports, it's unclear whether this scandal will hinder their pursuit of Maddon to replace Brad Ausmus as the team's manager. Prior to Saturday, the two sides seemed almost certain to reach an agreement.
Maddon interviewed for the position on Monday, though he wasn't the only candidate brought in for an interview.
Nightengale also reports that the Philadelphia Phillies are still in play for the former Chicago Cubs skipper.
Maddon would be best served to avoid the @Angels like the plague, if for no other reason, lack of talent and on-field performance. This team is not winning anytime soon. The ENTIRE pitching staff needs to be replaced, not to mention, terrible owner and organization. @CubsJoeMadd

In the end, it might not have an impact whatsoever. However, Maddon can basically go to whatever team he wants, as he's the most sought after manager this offseason. This piece of news could sway him to go elsewhere.
