Suspect Arrested for Allegedly Vandalizing Joe Montana Statue Outside Levi's Stadium

As if the San Francisco 49ers' Monday night wasn't bad enough, a statue of franchise-great Joe Montana was vandalized outside of Levi's Stadium following their overtime loss against the Seattle Seahawks.

Per reports, a suspect was arrested by Santa Clara police immediately after the game for allegedly cutting the facemask off Montana's statue. The individual was charged with felony vandalism.

Despite the damage done to the statue, the 49ers' official statement on Wednesday revealed that crews have started repairs on the sculpture, which are expected to be completed prior to Sunday's game against the Arizona Cardinals.

The immortalized image of Montana is part of the 49ers' tribute to "The Catch" between the former Notre Dame signal-caller and wide receiver Dwight Clark against the Dallas Cowboys in the 1981 NFC Championship game.

In fact, Clark has a statue of his own located just 23 yards away from the Montana figure outside the stadium, which was the exact distance between the two in their all-time memorable play.

Santa Clara police have declined to reveal the identity of the suspect, despite photos of the individual circulating throughout social media.

Have no worry 49ers fans, the statue of the great Montana will be restored in all of its glory.
