Joey Gallo Set to Undergo MRI Wednesday With Possible IL Stint Looming
By Parker White
Texas Rangers slugger Joey Gallo was placed on the injured list earlier this season with an oblique strain, and there's a chance he could be heading there once again with a different ailment.
Gallo is all set to have an MRI on Wednesday because of a sore right wrist. If it doesn't check out, Gallo could once again be shelved due to injury.
Gallo left Tuesday's game because of the sore wrist, and he's already been taken out of Wednesday's lineup. According to manager Chris Woodward, if Gallo heads to the IL, Willie Calhoun will be recalled to take his roster spot.
The 25-year-old slugger has really transformed his offensive game and is much more than a player who can hit the ball routinely over 400 feet. In 70 games this season, Gallo is slashing .253/.389/.598 with 22 home runs and 49 RBI.
Gallo also earned his first All-Star appearance this season, and even though he's a mountain of a man, his athleticism makes him a stud center fielder.
Texas was in the hunt for a playoff spot, but they've really fallen on their face, losing eight of their last 10 games. They stand only one game above .500. Gallo's absence certainly wouldn't help their chances of getting back in the Wild Card hunt.
