John Calipari's Son Reportedly Entering Transfer Portal is Awkward as Hell
By Will Fowler
It's an unwritten rule in the sports world that you don't let your family life and your managerial life directly interfere with one another. Nobody has come out an explicity said it, but it's pretty much implied.
Because if you let the two cross, you might find yourself in a situation like, well, this one:
Oh boy. Look, transferring was probably the right move for Calipari. After all, he was preparing for his senior year at a notoriously one-and-done school, only saw 23 minutes of game time last season, and averaged less than half a point per game in two years with Kentucky.
But John, that's your son, man.
Kentucky is a team with national championship aspirations, and Brad Calipari is someone who, simply put, doesn't fit that mold. And for all we know, it could've been Brad's decision completely anyway. It just feels a lot like when Austin Rivers was traded by the Clippers, the team coached by his dad - a necessary move, but a real awkward dynamic.
Best of luck to Brad in the future - he'll probably receive plenty of offers due to his experience and family lineage alone.
It just won't be from Big Blue.
