John Dorsey and Freddie Kitchens Make Surprise Appearance at Kareem Hunt's Baptism
By Michael Luciano
The message that the Cleveland Browns have been preaching ever since they signed former Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt was that he would be given a place on the team if he promised to change his ways and leave his past misdeeds entirely behind him.
One of the first steps in Hunt's path back to respectability involved getting baptized, and Browns GM John Dorsey and head coach Freddie Kitchens both managed to make a surprise visit to the embattled running back and give their support.
Hunt, who was released by the Chiefs and later suspended for the first eight games of the season after a video emerged of him kicking a woman in a hotel hallway, described himself as being "reborn" after receiving his baptism.
Hunt, who is eligible to be activated for the Browns' Week 10 game against the Buffalo Bills, figures to be extremely productive given the offensive talent that will be around him, but helping him change as a person was and remains Cleveland's first responsibility.
Hunt has a long way to go before he can earn his way back into the good graces of his team, the NFL, and football fans at large. Some may never forgive him. But if he truly is committed to this journey, he should be acknowledged for taking a first step.
