John Elway's Dumb Comments on Drew Lock Don't Help Anybody

The Denver Broncos are a sneaky pick to make it into the playoffs next year, as many think Vic Fangio's ferocious defense and the continued development of second-year gunslinger Drew Lock could vault Denver back into the postseason.

One man who remains at least a tad unconvinced, however, is Broncos GM John Elway, apparently. Elway, known for his struggles drafting quarterbacks, thinks that Lock is "that guy" but has doubts over if the Missouri product can be counted on as an established starting quarterback.

If you feel he is "the guy," why even qualify that statement with the second half of this sentence? How do you think Lock feels knowing that his GM doesn't seem totally in on him?

For what it's worth, Elway should be a believer in Lock. The former second-rounder won four of his five starts, with his only loss coming on the road in the snow against Kansas City. Lock threw seven touchdowns against three picks while completing 64% of his passes.

The Broncos should be doing nothing but hyping Lock up as they try to find him some more quality receivers in the draft, not qualifying vague statements about how good they think he really is. Elway should probably be muzzled until it's time to start drafting.
