John Elway Simply Needs to Be Fired After Hiring Vic Fangio
By Jerry Trotta
Denver Broncos general manager and president of football operations John Elway has come under scrutiny in recent seasons for some of his head-scratching transactions.
The most recent of those was his questionable hiring of defensive coordinator Vic Fangio, who boasted more than 20 years of experience at the position before being promoted to Denver's head coach.
Most would expect that Fangio's appointment would translate to the Broncos, whose defense comprises of a profusion of stars -- Von Miller, Bradley Chubb, Chris Harris Jr, and Kareem Jackson to name a few -- into a genuine world-beater. However, that has been anything but the case through three weeks of the 2019 campaign.
Yes, you read that correctly. Through 12 full quarters of play, Denver has yet to log a sack or turnover. Shaq Barrett, whom Elway let walk in the offseason for $1 million, is currently leading the league in sacks with eight for Tampa Bay.
It truly is no wonder why wideout Emmanuel Sanders opted to take a brazen shot at the franchise's current feeble state after Sunday's loss to the Packers.
With an aging Joe Flacco under center, Denver's D was supposed to be the catalyst of this team. But through three contests, they've surrendered 67 points, a tally that ranks in the middle of the pack of the NFL.
Forget the seven-game losing streak, Sunday's L marked the Broncos' first 0-3 start in 20 years! And the saddest part is that skid is showing no signs of ending anytime soon.
Yes, Elway is a franchise legend, but his skills as a league executive are severely inadequate. The organization simply needs to annul their undying loyalty to the Hall of Famer and cut ties with him.
