Jon Gruden and Raiders May Be Moving on From Derek Carr This Offseason
By Michael Luciano
As the Oakland Raiders prepare to make the move to Las Vegas next season, they could have an entirely new quarterback in tow.
The Raiders are allegedly targeting a quarterback with more "upside," be that via the draft, trade, or free agency, meaning long-time starter Derek Carr could be on the outside looking in.
Carr, the Raiders' all-time leader in passing yards, sits just nine touchdowns behind Ken Stabler for the franchise record in touchdown passes. The three-time Pro Bowl quarterback is completing 70% of his passes this season, with 3,372 yards, 19 touchdowns, and eight interceptions to his name. His 99.5 passer rating would be a career-high.
The Raiders are 10-20 with Gruden as a head coach, and Carr has started each of those games. While he was far from the worst problem on this mess of a roster, Raiders fans and the organization as a whole can't be too thrilled with how the former second-round pick out of Fresno State has plateaued in recent weeks.
Carr has proven that he is certainly a starting quarterback in the league over the last few years, but the offense appears to have stagnated over the last few games. With the move to Las Vegas coming next season, the Raiders could look to start with a fresh new face at quarterback.
