VIDEO: Jon Lester Dominates 3-Inning Spring Training Outing vs Mariners on Sunday
By Sean Facey
Spring Training has treated the Chicago Cubs kindly thus far. Javier Baez has been mashing home runs, Willson Contreras is showing off his cannon and Yu Darvish looked sharp in his preseason frames. But on Sunday, veteran southpaw Jon Lester dazzled in three shutout innings against the Seattle Mariners, in a showing that should have all Cubbies fans on cloud nine.
The 14-year MLB veteran bounced back from a rough first start to completely shut down the Mariners. He allowed just two hits and issued zero walks while striking out four batters in his start.
It's a good sign for both Lester and the Cubs. If they want to compete in a stacked NL Central division this year, they'll need the 36-year-old to be at the top of his game out of the gates. His bounce-back performance on Sunday was nothing short of encouraging.
Hopefully he can continue to shine as the spring wears on so that the Cubs don't have too many question marks heading into the season.
