Jordan Binnington Proved Bruins Didn't Break Him Despite Game 3 Shellacking
By Brendan Azoff
For the first time in his short but magnificent career, Jordan Binnington was pulled from an NHL game. During the Boston Bruins 7-2 Game 3 rout of the Blues, he surrendered five goals on just 19 shots, leading to Jake Allen's first appearance of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
Binnington has not been his usual self in the finals, but Game 4's strong performance proved he has the mental fortitude to push his woes from his mind and turn around with a strong performance. He actually ranks among the best players all-time in terms of bouncing back from a difficult loss.
The Blues carried much of the play, but Binnington made the saves when he needed to, stopping 21-of-23 shots en route to the club's first-ever home victory in the Stanley Cup Finals.
He may not look as impenetrable as he did late in the regular season, but he proved that he is talented enough to keep the Blues in the series.
The Bruins can be expected to test the 25-year-old goaltender more frequently in Game 5, as they mustered just 42 shots in two games on the road against Binnington and St. Louis' staunch defense.
Hopefully after proving to the fans and himself that he is capable of responding with a big outing, he maintains his confidence and holds down the fort against a hungry Boston team on their home ice Thursday night.
