Jordan Reed Should Retire From the NFL
By Michael Luciano
One of the most dynamic receiving tight ends in the league has suffered yet another debilitating injury, and he might need to hang it up for the sake of his health.
Washington Redskins tight end Jordan Reed, who isn't playing on Monday Night Football against the Chicago Bears, might have played his last down in the NFL, as the repeated injuries, most notably concussions, have taken their toll.
Reed, 29, was drafted in the third round, No. 85 overall, in the 2013 draft out of Florida. Reed's breakout seasons came in 2015, when he recorded 952 yards receiving and 11 touchdowns in just 14 games, and 2016, when he made his first and to this point only Pro Bowl despite playing in only 12 games.
The short-term future of the Redskins at that position is solid due to the presence of Vernon Davis, but Washington will need to draft a successor if Reed's injuries have gotten the better of him and force him out of the game.
Injuries sapping the effectiveness from potential starts are always disappointing, but Reed could have been an All-Pro given his hands and speed. Instead, he has to pray that he'll be able to take the field again. But, at this point, he should call it a career. His future health relies on making the tough decision.
