VIDEO: Jose Altuve Got Thoroughly Booed Again at Astros Spring Training Home Game
By Scott Rogust
Commissioner Rob Manfred announced his decision to not punish the players on the Houston Astros for their role in the sign-stealing scandal, much to the dismay of fans, who have taken it upon themselves to ridicule the Astros at any opportunity. To say the reception for the 'Stros has been hostile would be a massive understatement. Second baseman Jose Altuve was booed on the road during a spring game against the Detroit Tigers last week, but on Sunday the former MVP received the same treatment at an Astros' home game.
The commentator couldn't have said it any better. If Altuve's at-bats have shown us anything, it's that MLB fans are a long way from forgiving the 'Stros.
By now Astros players are likely used to being booed on the road, and while this game didn't take place in Houston, they were unable to avoid the malice in their own spring park.
Astros fans will likely have a more comfortable experience while playing their 81 games at MinuteMaid Park in 2020, but considering the standard of reception they've received throughout the spring, expect opposing ballparks to be far more hostile come the regular season.
