Josh Doctson Era in Washington is Over
By Sean Facey
The Washington Redskins' patience with one of their former first round-picks has finally run thin.
After three years of mediocre performances and failures to live up to expectations, wide receiver Josh Doctson is expected to be either traded or released by the end of the day, per Ian Rapoport.
The news was long in the making. It had previously been reported Washington was looking to ship him out before the start of the regular season.
Doctson was drafted 22nd overall by the Redskins back in 2016 with the expectation that he would blossom into the team's star wide receiver. Unfortunately, those dreams never came to fruition.
He struggled with injuries in his first season that limited him to just two games. In that brief sample size, he managed 66 receiving yards on two receptions.
In the 2017 and 2018 seasons, he appeared in 31 of the team's 32 games, hauling in 79 receptions for 1,034 yards and eight touchdowns. Those aren't bad numbers by any means, but they certainly weren't what the Redskins were demanding out of him as the team's top receiver.
He'll no doubt get a chance with another team hungry for help at the receiver position. His fellow draftee, Corey Coleman, struggled with the Cleveland Browns, but was able to find a spot with the New York Giants before he got injured.
Doctson wasn't able to play up to snuff with the Redskins, and ultimately that cost him his job. Where he lands next remains to be seen.
