Josh Hamilton Claims He Spoke to the Holy Spirit Before His Clutch World Series Home Run in 2011
By Michael Luciano
Well...let's charitably file this one under weird.
Former Texas Rangers superstar Josh Hamilton is being inducted into the team's Hall of Fame for his MVP season and contributions he made that helped achieve back-to-back World Series appearances. Before his now-famous go-ahead home run in Game 6 of that series, Hamilton claims that he was in contact with a higher power.
"I'm in the on-deck circle, in extra innings, and I'm telling you, out of nowhere....I hear the Holy Spirit talking to me," Hamilton said. "I'm standing there, getting ready to bat, and I hear it clear as day. 'You're about to hit a homer right now, son.' And I'm like, Huh...O.K."
But wait, it gets weirder!
"Then I take a couple more hacks in the on-deck circle," Hamilton continued. "A few moments later, I walk up to the plate. Step into the box. And the very first pitch I see, home run."
Maybe he's on to something. There was something divine and poetic about Hamilton's Rangers career. A former top prospect who didn't make his MLB debut for eight years due to a drug addiction after being drafted first overall in 1999, Hamilton won an MVP in 2008 and averaged 28 home runs and 101 RBI in his first five years as a Ranger.
As odd as this story might sound, Hamilton remains a permanent fixture in Rangers franchise history, and will be honored as such before Saturday's game.
