VIDEO: Footage of JuJu Smith-Schuster as High School DB Prospect Will Make Steelers Fans Double-Take
By Mark Powell
High school secondary prospects converting to wide receiver at the collegiate level is nothing new, but it's rare this happens at a high-profile D-I institution like USC. Yet, JuJu Smith-Schuster, who at one point was recruited as a DB, eventually switched positions and became one of the best wideouts in the country. His high school footage shows he wasn't a bad defensive back, either.
Smith-Schuster is not Minkah Fitzpatrick, but if the Steelers are ever forced into a position due to injury in which they're short at CB or S, it's good to know that JuJu can step in and not feel completely overwhelmed.
Nonetheless, we'd say he made the right choice, despite a down year in 2019.
Some Pittsburgh media members (not pointing fingers) don't appreciate the work and development it takes to become a top-notch wide receiver at the professional level. Smith-Schuster's initial production came in part thanks to working next to Antonio Brown, who took most of the coverage with him.
Now forced to beat the best CBs in the NFL one-on-one, the learning curve is very real.
