Justin Turner Suspended for Making Contact With Umpire in Dodgers-Padres

Keon Broxton wasn't the only player to get suspended on Tuesday for an altercation with an umpire.

Los Angeles Dodgers star Justin Turner was dealt a one-game suspension of his own and fined for making contact with home plate umpire Rob Drake during Monday's game against the San Diego Padres.

Turner, of course, will appeal the suspension, meaning he can continue to play until his argument is heard.

The beloved Dodgers third baseman got into it with Drake when he wrung him up on a pitch that was most likely a strike to end the game. Turner, who was 3-for-4 to that point with two runs batted in, somehow felt cheated and decided to mouth off.

In fairness to Turner, he did represent the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth inning with two outs, but the pitch was a strike. Padres catcher Francisco Mejia received the ball poorly in part because closer Kirby Yates missed his spot, but that's no invitation to start berating Drake.

Right on the money. Turner is entitled to think that the call was a mistake, considering he doesn't have immediate access to an electronic strike zone, but in the heat of the moment, he needs to conduct himself better than that.

Arguing balls and strikes and then making contact with an umpire is never a good look. Time will tell whether or not the suspension holds up.
