Justin Verlander Spending 'Opening Day at Home' Forcing His Family to Watch His Own Highlights
By Adam Weinrib
Justin Verlander's impressive career has spanned two distinct eras -- his time spent winning World Series and earning accolades in Houston, and his earlier days in Detroit, where he established himself and became one of the rare pitchers to ever earn MVP honors back in 2011.
JV the Tiger was particularly nasty, long before he had the label of "Gutsy Veteran" attached to his performance. And nobody remembers that era better than...JV himself.
In an effort to make new Opening Day memories, amid dire circumstances (and while recuperating from surgery), Verlander tuned into YouTube TV early in the morning with Kate Upton and their daughter Genevieve to watch his 2007 no-no.
As you do.
MLB is running an "Opening Day at Home" initiative across all the channels they have access to on Thursday, in an effort to make things feel as normal as possible. All fans can catch a game specifically tailored for them on one of many available MLB channels -- though they likely won't be quite as intended for you as this particular contest was for Verlander.
The Tigers' ace used his vicious heat and harsh breaker to destroy the Milwaukee Brewers on June 12, 2007, his first no-hitter in his second campaign. We're sure Kate & Genevieve were equally enthralled.
What are you waiting for? Tune in along with the Verlander fam!
