Kansas signs head coach Bill Self to lifetime contract

Bill Self means so much to the University of Kansas. That goes without saying, especially after he's had so much success with the basketball program. Come next March, Self's contract was set to expire, but Kansas has gone ahead and taken care of that in a big way.

That's because on Friday morning, it was announced that Self and the Jayhawks have agreed to a lifetime contract. With his new deal, it's basically a five-year extension, but the agreement rolls over every year after that. Whoa.

This news has stolen headlines from the Final Four, but for good reason. Self is a Hall of Famer and is beloved by the Kansas faithful.

“For almost 20 years, Coach Self has embodied the spirit and tradition of the University of Kansas, leading our men’s basketball program to a national championship, 15 Big 12 titles and 17 NCAA Tournament appearances," Kansas Chancellor Doug Girod said in a release. "We believe in Coach Self and we believe in the future of our program under his leadership, and we are thrilled that he will continue to be a Jayhawk for the rest of his coaching career.”

This is indeed monster news for Kansas, as they've rewarded the man who led the team to a national title in 2008.
