Chiefs Reunite With Veteran RB Spencer Ware
The Kansas City Chiefs can use some help in the backfield heading into the final month of the NFL season. With that in mind, the team has decided to turn to a familiar face for help: Spencer Ware.
Ware is back in KC after beginning the season with the Indianapolis Colts. An injury held him out of action before his release in September.
The veteran runner was previously with the Chiefs from 2015-2018, though he missed the entire 2017 season with a knee injury. 2016 was his standout year, as he rushed for 921 yards.
This move comes as the Chiefs deal with injuries to both Damien Williams and Darrel Williams. That leaves LeSean McCoy as the No. 1 back, with Darwin Thompson as the backup.
Thompson has only has 16 carries this season. Adding a security blanket like Ware makes legitimate sense.
Ware should be comfortable in this Andy Reid offense, and should also be healthy. The Chiefs would not have brought him in if there were any lingering issues, after all.
Cutting Kareem Hunt last year shook up the Chiefs offense. Adding McCoy helped but injuries have had an effect. Luckily, the Chiefs have Patrick Mahomes leading the offense.
This Sunday features the Chiefs taking on the New England Patriots. Bad weather could be a major factor and we may see Ware playing a big role in his first game back. The alternative is Mahomes playing like a superhuman in the cold and building his legend, but he's not likely to prevail against a ruthless Pats defense without help from his backfield.
