Kansas' Silvio De Sousa Suspended Indefinitely After Wild Brawl With K-State
By Scott Rogust
The talk of the college basketball world has been all about the wild brawl between the Kansas Jayhawks and Kansas State Wildcats. Now, punishments are starting to be handed out.
Kansas power forward Silvio De Sousa has been suspended indefinitely for his role in the bench-clearing brawl on Tuesday evening. The photo of the PF holding a chair and looking to strike someone with it has quickly gone viral.
"I have suspended Silvio De Sousa indefinitely pending the final outcome of the review by KU and the Big 12 Conference," head coach Bill Self said in an official statement. "As I said last night, we are disappointed in his actions and there is no place in the game for that behavior."
With the Jayhawks leading 81-60, Kansas State's DaJuan Gordon attempted a late breakaway layup. During that play, De Sousa viciously blocked it and stood over Gordon, taunting him for the miss.
De Sousa's demeanor angered the Wildcats bench, causing a massive brawl in the crowd. During the fight, De Sousa was caught throwing punches at Wildcats players in uniform and in street clothes, while also picking up a folding chair to attempt to use as a weapon.
Other suspensions for players from both teams are expected to arrive soon.
