Kareem Hunt Undergoes Surgery for Sports Hernia Prior to Browns Preseason Finale
By Jerry Trotta
It would appear that Kareem Hunt's groin injury, which held him out for the early stages of the Cleveland Browns' late-July training camp, has yet to heal. In fact, it may be far more serious than previously considered.
The embattled Pro Bowl tailback underwent surgery this morning to repair a sports hernia and has been ruled out for Thursday night's preseason wrap-up against the Detroit Lions. The timetable for his recovery projects him to be on track for Week 10 of the regular season, when he is scheduled to return from an eight-game suspension.
As it turns out, the Dawg Pound will not get one last glimpse as to what Hunt could contribute alongside Nick Chubb when he returns for the final third of the campaign.
The timing of the surgery is extremely convenient as it was announced on Wednesday that the NFL would not permit the Toledo product to be present at the Browns facility during his suspension.
Now, however, he will be distracted by rehabbing the hernia, which insider Ian Rapoport understands will take a little less than two months to recover from.
Unless he suffers a setback, head coach Freddie Kitchens will have a fully-healthy Hunt available off the bench come Week 10.
