The coronavirus pandemic has unfortunately claimed another life, as the mother of one of the most talented players in the NBA has succumbed to the ravages of COVID-19.

Jacqueline "Jackie" Cruz, the mother of Minnesota Timberwolves superstar Karl-Anthony Towns, passed away at the age of 52 today after a long fight with the virus.

Both of Towns' parents tested positive for the virus, although his father, Karl Sr., was able to recover while his mother unfortunately lost her life. Towns confirmed that his mother was put into a medically-induced coma while struggling to fight the virus.

Jackie, who was summarized as "an incredible source of strength" by a Towns family spokesperson, was extremely close with her son, who averaged a career high 26.5 points per game in 2019-20.

Towns is one of many around the country who have unfortunately lost a loved one to this pandemic. Our thoughts and condolences are with KAT, the Towns family, the Timberwolves during this extremely difficult time.
