Kawhi Leonard's Uncle Dennis Robertson Finally Opens Up About Star's Messy Exit From Spurs
By Brendan Azoff
Kawhi Leonard just led the Toronto Raptors past the Milwaukee Bucks, advancing the organization to its first NBA Finals appearance ever. None of this would have been possible if the Raptors had not shipped their former star DeMar DeRozan to the San Antonio Spurs in exchange for Leonard, whose drama with his former team made headlines for much of last year.
But now, finally, Kawhi's uncle Dennis Robertson explained why his nephew requested to be traded from San Antonio.
The main factor in the trade request was the lack of trust between Kawhi and the Spurs organization, who believed that Kawhi could have played through his injury despite him continually telling them that he was physically unable to.
According to Robertson, that lack of trust forced Kawhi to rethink his situation, which eventually led to his exit. Robertson also stated that if a player says they are unable to play, especially when they are as competitive as Leonard, then the team should believe them, regardless of what the medical staff says.
The Raptors are thanking the heavens for Kawhi's trade request, as their new superstar has dominated the postseason and put them in a position to capture an NBA title, although they'll have a tall task against the Golden State Warriors.
But let's not forget Kawhi has experience playing against them.
