Kellen Moore Proved He's an Offensive Genius in Cowboys' Season Opener
By Scott Rogust
The Dallas Cowboys lived up to the hype entering the 2019 season, as they completely outclassed the New York Giants in a 35-17 home victory. With Ezekiel Elliott locked in via a contract extension, the offense realized their full potential on Sunday afternoon.
However, there's one additional person who deserves credit for the successful performance. And no, it's not Dak Prescott. It's new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore.
If you remember last season, Cowboys fans and football analysts spent much of their time bemoaning the play-calling by then-offensive coordinator Scott Linehan. At season's end, Dallas parted ways with Linehan, which paved the way for former backup quarterback Moore to take over the reigns.
Granted, this was against a porous Giants defense, but Dallas' offense looked downright unbeatable, employing a series of schemes with monstrous potential, spreading the ball around to no end.
Dallas accumulated 494 yards on offense and averaged an even 8.0 yards per play. Oh, and the Cowboys successfully converted 60% of their third-down plays. That's always a good thing.
Prescott finished Sunday completing 25-of-32 pass attempts for a staggering 405 yards and four touchdowns. Normally teased as "Dink and Dak," Prescott was taking shots deep downfield and exploiting broken coverage in the Giants' secondary. That rarely happened under Linehan, which is a breath of fresh air if you happen to call yourself a Cowboys fan.
While you should certainly temper expectations until the Cowboys face a true formidable foe, the Dallas Cowboys' offense under Kellen Moore got off to a grand start in Week 1.
