Kentavious Caldwell-Pope Contract Details Will Make Lakers Fans Cringe
By Mark Powell
For those unfamiliar, Kentavious Caldwell-Pope is robbing the Lakers blind. NBA fans outside of Los Angeles are likely thrilled by this fact, but KCP's contract is one of the Association's greatest mysteries. Rather than continuing to wonder why LA chose to give Caldwell-Pope such a...generous deal, ponder no more:
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope Contract Details
Per spotrac, KCP will be paid $8,089,282 in the 2019-20 season and $8,493,746 in 2020-21. This season, Caldwell-Pope has a no-trade clause. Yes, we're serious, although we're unaware if it's a partial or full NTC.
All jokes aside, KCP isn't that bad. While he draws the ire of Lakers fans repeatedly, Caldwell-Pope offers a solid defender off the bench and the occasional ability to hit a corner three-pointer. At least he has arguable strengths.
The Lakers' brass has too much at stake this season with LeBron and Anthony Davis to allow for wasted roster space, and the fact KCP gets minutes at all should provide the hint that, although fans don't understand, Caldwell-Pope offers some intangibles LA finds useful. That's all that matters.
