Kentucky Basketball Reportedly Preparing to Lose Tons of Talent to NBA Draft
By Jerry Trotta
March Madness being cancelled couldn't have come at a worse time for a handful of programs, and Kentucky falls right under that category. The Wildcats were hitting their stride as they prepared for their their debut in the SEC Tournament.
Most college basketball analysts were convinced that Kentucky was poised for a deep run in the NCAA Tournament, and that hype made its cancellation all the more difficult to reckon with for Wildcats supporters.
Well, we unfortunately have some news that will only expedite that frustration. Reports indicate that John Calipari is going to lose a mountain of talent to the NBA Draft.
Sources close to Travis Graf of Cat Illustrated claim that ALL of Tyrese Maxey, Immanuel Quickley, Ashton Hagans, Nick Richards and EJ Montgomery are all preparing to enter their names in the 2020 NBA Draft.
Losing all five of those players would obviously be a massive blow to Kentucky. Between them, the players contributed an average of 30.86 minutes per game for the Wildcats this past season. To add more context to the sheer impact that Maxey, Quickley, Hagans, Richard, and Montgomery had on Kentucky's success in 2019, the players averaged 61.7 of the 74.4 points that the team scored per game.
Graf notes that things could change, but it's looking likely that Calipari will once again be forced to overcome another wave of young talent leaving for the professional level.
